Site Description: Tianjin University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Beiyang University, founded on October 2, 1895, and it is the first modern university in China. It is renowned both domestically and internationally for its motto of "seeking truth from facts" and its academic policy of "rigorous scholarship and strict teaching requirements". In 1951, it was renamed Tianjin University after being adjusted by the national departments. It was one of the first 16 national key universities identified by the CPC Central Committee in 1959, and the first batch of key universities under the "211 Project" and "Project 985".
