Site Description: The predecessor of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin Medical College, was founded in 1951. It was the first higher medical institution approved by the State Council after the establishment of the People's Republic of China, with renowned endocrinologist and medical educator Professor Zhu Xianyi as the first president. In 1993, the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and Government decided to merge Tianjin Medical College with Tianjin Second Medical College to form Tianjin Medical University, which was approved by the National Education Commission in December of the same year. In June 1994, Tianjin Medical University was officially established. The current party secretary of the university is Professor Zhang Lianyun, and the president is Professor Hao Xishan, a famous oncology expert and academician of the CAE Member. The school is a key construction institution of the national "211 Project".
