Shangluo College is a provincial full-time regular undergraduate institution, formerly known as the "Shangluo Specialized College of Shaanxi Normal University" established in 1976. In 1984, it was renamed as "Shangluo Normal College" with the approval of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. In February 2006, it was upgraded to a undergraduate institution with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology was formed in 1956 by the merger of the civil and architectural departments (departments) of the former Northeast Institute of Technology, Northwest Institute of Technology, Qingdao Institute of Technology, and Sunan Industrial College during the third national departmental adjustment, and was then named Xi'an Institute of Architecture and Engineering. In 1959 and 1963, it was renamed Xi'an Metallurgy Institute and Xi'an Metallurgy Architecture Institute successively. Xi'an Petroleum University was founded in 1951 and is the first specialized school in training petroleum and petrochemical technical cadres in New China. The school headquarters is located in the Electronic Industrial Park of Xi'an High tech Industrial Development Zone, and the new campus is located in Xi'an Fengjing Industrial Park, Huxian County, Xi'an City. The school covers an area of 2207.15 acres, with a total fixed asset value of 1.278 billion yuan and a total teaching equipment value of 226 million yuan.

The predecessor of Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was the Northwest Traditional Chinese Medicine Continuing Education School established in Xi'an in 1952. It was upgraded to Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1959 and relocated to the ancient capital of Xianyang in 1961. It is the only ordinary higher education institution in Shaanxi to cultivate advanced traditional Chinese medicine talents. It is one of the eight key construction traditional Chinese medicine universities in China determined by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1978, and was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as one of the first batch of higher medical colleges with the right to grant master's degrees in 1981.

Chang'an University is directly under the Ministry of Education and is a key construction university of the National "211 Project" jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Transport. It was formed in 2000 by the merger of the former Xi'an Highway and Transportation University, Xi'an Institute of Engineering, and Northwest Institute of Architecture and Engineering, which were founded in the early 1950s. The school is located in the historical and cultural city of Xi'an, with 2 main teaching areas and 1 internship base, covering an area of 2980 acres. Over the past half century, Chang'an University has gradually developed into a higher education institution with a focus on engineering and a combination of science and engineering. It combines various disciplines such as economics, management, and humanities, with a focus on cultivating professionals in highway transportation, land resources and environment, and construction engineering. It has a certain influence both domestically and internationally, and has trained over 130000 graduates of various types for the country.

The Fourth Military Medical University of the People's Liberation Army of China is a national key university that trains high-level and middle-level medical professionals for the military. The school was formed in 1954 by the merger of the former Fourth Military Medical University and the former Fifth Military Medical University. The predecessor of the former Fourth Military Medical University was the Health School of the Northwest Military Region of the Eighth Route Army established in 1941, while the predecessor of the former Fifth Military Medical University was the National Central University School of Medicine established in 1935. The school was designated as one of the first batch of key universities in China in 1959, entered the ranks of key military construction universities in 1995, and became one of the first batch of key construction universities in the "211 Project" of the country in 1997. The school headquarters is located in the ancient city of Xi'an, covering an area of 2840 acres.

Northwest A&F University of Science and Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is now a key university under the national "Project 985" and "211 Project", and has a graduate school. Current Party Secretary Zhang Guangqiang and Principal Sun Wuxue.

Xi'an Technician College was founded in 1954, and Xi'an Xidian Electromechanical College was founded in 1957. The two colleges are jointly affiliated with China Xidian Group, a central enterprise managed by the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. It is a senior vocational and technical college aimed at cultivating senior and preparatory technicians at the college level, and can independently issue nationally recognized college diplomas. The college was named as a national key technical school by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security in 1997, and was upgraded to a senior technical school in 2001.

Liberal arts college is a full-time regular undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of liberal arts college is Xi'an Normal University, Xi'an University and Xi'an Institute of Education. In 1990, Xi'an Normal University (founded in 1958) and Xi'an University (founded in 1980) merged to form Xi'an United University; In 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Xi'an Union University and Xi'an Institute of Education (founded in 1952) were merged and renamed as liberal arts college.

Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology is a national key university with a focus on information and electronics, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, science, management, and humanities. It is directly under the Ministry of Education and is one of the key universities approved for the construction of the "211 Project". It is also one of the 55 universities with graduate schools, one of the 35 demonstration software colleges, and one of the 15 universities approved to establish integrated circuit talent training bases in China.
