Its predecessor was Yunyang Normal School, founded in 1954. It began to establish junior college classes in 1975 and became the Yunyang Branch of Central China Normal University in 1977. In December 1978, Yunyang Normal College was established with the approval of the State Council. In 1993, it was renamed Yunyang Normal College with the approval of the former National Education Commission.
