Site Description: Beijing Normal University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education, and is a renowned institution with the main characteristics of teacher education, educational science, and basic humanities and sciences. The predecessor of the school was the Beijing Normal University, founded in 1902. In 1908, it was renamed as the Beijing Excellent Normal School and established as an independent school. In 1912, it was renamed as Beijing Higher Normal School. In 1923, it was renamed Beijing Normal University, becoming the first normal university in Chinese history. In 1931 and 1952, Beiping Women's Normal University and Furen University were merged into Beijing Normal University.
