    Guangdong Water Resources and Electric Power Vocational and Technical College is a public full-time higher education institution approved by the Ministry of Education in July 1999. The college is under the jurisdiction of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Water Resources and receives guidance from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education in its business. The predecessor of the college was the Guangzhou Civil and Hydraulic Engineering School established in October 1952, which was suspended during the Cultural Revolution. In May 1973, it resumed operation and was renamed as Guangdong Provincial Water Conservancy and Electric Power School. In July 1999, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to Guangdong Vocational and Technical College of Water Resources and Electric Power.
