Site Description: Nanjing University is located in the ancient capital of Jinling, which is renowned for its long history and outstanding reputation. Its predecessor was Sanjiang Normal School, founded in 1902. It went through historical periods such as Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University, Fourth Sun Yat sen University, National Central University, and National Nanjing University, and was renamed Nanjing University in 1950. In 1952, in the adjustment of colleges and departments of colleges and universities across the country, Nanjing University merged with the School of Arts and Science of Jinling University founded in 1888 after adjusting some colleges and departments such as engineering, agronomy and normal education, and was still named Nanjing University. The school site was relocated from Sipailou to the original site of Gulou Jinda.
