Site Description: China University of Petroleum is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a key university under the national "211 Project", one of the 56 universities with graduate schools, and a key university supported by the state to carry out the construction of the "Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". China University of Petroleum (East China) is a general higher education institution jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the four major petroleum and petrochemical enterprise groups (China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, and China National Chemical Corporation), the Ministry of Education, and the People's Government of Shandong Province. The school was established in 1953 and was then known as Beijing Petroleum Institute. In 1969, it was relocated to Shandong and renamed as East China Petroleum Institute. In 1988, the school was renamed as the University of Petroleum, gradually forming a pattern of education in Shandong and Beijing. In January 2005, the school was renamed as China University of Petroleum.
