Shangluo College is a provincial full-time regular undergraduate institution, formerly known as the "Shangluo Specialized College of Shaanxi Normal University" established in 1976. In 1984, it was renamed as "Shangluo Normal College" with the approval of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. In February 2006, it was upgraded to a undergraduate institution with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

The predecessor of Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was the Northwest Traditional Chinese Medicine Continuing Education School established in Xi'an in 1952. It was upgraded to Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1959 and relocated to the ancient capital of Xianyang in 1961. It is the only ordinary higher education institution in Shaanxi to cultivate advanced traditional Chinese medicine talents. Northwest A&F University of Science and Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is now a key university under the national "Project 985" and "211 Project", and has a graduate school. Current Party Secretary Zhang Guangqiang and Principal Sun Wuxue.

Liberal arts college is a full-time regular undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of liberal arts college is Xi'an Normal University, Xi'an University and Xi'an Institute of Education.
