In 2000, the school was formed by the merger of the former Nanjing College of Economics, Jiangsu College of Finance and Economics, and Jiangsu College of Economic Management Cadres. In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was officially renamed from Nanjing University of Economics to Nanjing University of Finance and Economics. In 2006, the school achieved excellence in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation by the Ministry of Education.
