Site Description: Southern Medical University, formerly known as the First Military Medical University of the People's Liberation Army of China, was founded in 1951 and was designated as a national key university in 1979. In 2004, it was approved as one of the eight higher education institutions in China to pilot eight year medical education. In August 2004, according to orders issued by the State Council and the Central Military Commission, it was transferred to Guangdong Province and renamed Southern Medical University. There are currently three campuses, including the main campus, the southern campus, and the Shunde campus, covering an area of 1.7668 million square meters and a building area of 854100 square meters. Enrollment is aimed at 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and Hong Kong and Macao regions across the country.
